Laboratory of Tyfloinformatics |
Welcome on the site of the tyfloinformatics’ laboratory of University of Podlasie- computer laboratory dedicated to blind and poor eyesight students. This laboratory is available also for all disabled students every day since 8.00 up to 19.00 excluding the classes time.
Tyfloinformatics
Tyfloinformatics is the dedicated course, which goal is to teach blind and poor eyesight students to work with computer. First element of the word “tyfloinformatics” (typhlo) comes from old Greek, in which it means “blind”. University of Podlasie since 1994 year included Tyfloinformatics’ courses to teaching plan of students with sight problems. This course is dedicated to students, who during the enrolment process declared substantial or full sight damage. Classes lasts 3 first semesters of studies, regardless of studies faculty. Level of education is fitted to the each student individually.
Students can acquire many skills necessary during studies and future work, like:
- operating programs like screenReader and screenMagnifier,
- operating in Windows and managing it to their special requirements
- using MsWord and MsExcel
- editing and print Braille texts
- scanning and recognize printed texts with use fineReader program
- using the e-mail
- finding broadcasts in different languages in the internet radio
- using Skype communicator and other VOIP type programs
Students having better skills in computer work, can learn
- using and creating advanced configurations of screenReader and screenMagnifier programs
- basics of the designing and operating databases by MsAccess
- elements of the mathematical formula editor TeX
- creating the WWW sites
- creating the multimedia presentations
- operating the signal processing programs
- cooperation of the mobile phones with computer
- creating the audio books in Daisy system
